[Up] [Dromo's Den] Xenophon Image Xenophon (c.434-c.355 B.C.). An Athenian historian, soldier, and philosopher. Xenophon accompanied the military expedition of Cyrus the Younger against his brother, Artaxerxes, King of Persia. The 10,000 Greek mercenaries of Cyrus's army, led by Xenophon, were isolated and battled their way from the heart of Persia to the Black Sea and back to Greece, demonstrating the weakness of the Persian Empire and presaging the conquests of Alexander the Great.
