Richard Chancellor (?-1556). An English navigator, who in 1553 after a hurricane landed the Edouard Bonaventure near the present site of Archangel. In Moscow, he was received by the Czar, with whom he negotiated a treaty of commerce. Afterward the Muscovy Company was established.
