Jean François Champollion (1790-1832) A French Egyptologist, he is credited with deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphics after the discovery of the Rosetta stone. His results were published as Lettre à Monsieur Dacier (1822), and his Prècis du systeme hieroglyphique (1824).
