Catharine II (1729-1796) "Catherine the Great"- Consort of Czar Peter and empress of Russia (1725-1727). During her reign she secured for Russia a large share in the partitions of Poland, defeated the Turks, annexed the Crimea and Courland, and extended the boundaries of Russia to the Dniester.
