Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898) German statesman, chancellor of Germany 1871-1890. Sept. 30, 1862, he said: " Not by speeches and resolutions of majorities are the mighty problems of the age to be solved-that was the mistake of 1848 and 1849-but by blood and iron."
