Father Joseph (1577-1638) François Leclerc du Tremblay, the private secretary of Cardinal Richelieu and a Capuchin friar. Father Joseph's influence and power led him to be known as His Gray Eminence, in contradistinction to His Red Eminence, Cardinal Richelieu.
