Pedro Alvarez Cabral (?1460-1526). A Portuguese navigator. In 1500, with 13 vessels, Cabral left Portugal taking a course west of that of Vasco da Gama and was carried to Brazil. He claimed the discovery in the name of Portugal, calling the country Terra Sanctœ Crucis.
