[Up] [Dromo's Den] Joseph Bloomingdale Biography BLOOMINGDALE, Joseph B., merchant, was born Dec. 22, 1842, in New York city. For a while he was engaged in the dry goods business in New York city, and in 1860 went to California. After working at various occupations in Nevada, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, he returned east and entered into business in New York city with his father and brother. Beginning in 1872 with three employes, they now employ nearly fifteen hundred workmen; and he is recognized as one of the leading merchants of New York city. He is prominent in the Masonic fraternity and is noted for his many acts of benevolence and charity.
