Diego de Almagro (1475-1538) A Spanish adventurer. In 1535 Almagro became Adelantado, or Governor, of "New Toledo," a territory beginning at the southern limit of Pizarro's grant. A dispute arose and Almagro was captured by Pizarro's forces, April 26, 1538, and garroted in the following July.
